Harry Potter Play

Harry Potter play landing soonharry potter play

A Harry Potter play is currently in development. JK Rowling announced that she had received numerous offer to adapt the story into a play in the past. She has now found theater producers with a unique and interesting vision that she is keen to work with. JK Rowling will collaborate with producers Colin Callender and Sonia Friedman on the play. Acting as co-producer on the project, JK Rowling will work with a yet to be appointed playwright, but will not be writing the stage play herself.

Details are thin on the ground at the moment. We do know that the play is to be staged in London, but with the everlasting popularity of Harry Potter there is little doubt it will transfer to New York’s Broadway at some point, with national and international tours likely to follow.

Harry Potter stage play for 2015

Stage plays often spend years in development, but the good news from the Rowling camp is that the Harry Potter stage play is scheduled for opening night sometime during 2015, which means we have less than two years to wait.

The Harry Potter stage play will focus on the early years of Harry Potter, before he knew he was a wizard and lived under the stairs at his aunt and uncle’s house. This means a completely new story for Potter-fans. Rowling has also promised the involvement of established characters from the Harry Potter universe, which will hopefully include the likes of Dumbledore and Hagrid keeping a watchful eye over a young Harry Potter.

Warner Bros are understood to be involved in the development of the project, continuing their strong links to the Harry Potter universe that started with the release of the motion pictures.

Harry Potter musical

Initial rumors were that the Harry Potter play was going to be the Harry Potter musical, but this looks unlikely. What is sure though is that Harry Potter fans around the world will be rejoicing at news of the further adventures of the boy wizard who gripped our hearts and freed our minds.

JK Rowling – New Book Released

JK Rowling – New Book now on general releasejk rowling new book

It is official! The news we have been waiting for from publishing sensation JK Rowling – New book now on release. Written under the pen-name of Robert Galbraith, The Cuckoo’s Calling is a detective novel that was released in April 2013 through Mulholland Books in the U.S. and Sphere Books in the U.K.

The Cuckoo’s Calling is JK Rowling’s second novel written for an adult audience following 2012’s The Casual Vacancy. It is her first detective novel. You can read all about it here at JK Rowling – New Book.

The Plot

In the glitziest part of London, supermodel Lula Landry falls to her death from her apartment balcony. Known as Cuckoo to her friends, Lula had all the trappings of fame; wealth, constantly snapping paparazzi, even a drug-using rock-star boyfriend.

Retired military policemen Cormoran Strike, who lost his leg in the Afghan war, now works as a private investigator. Having recently split up with his girlfriend, with his business failing, and plunging ever further into debt; Strike’s life is falling apart, and he is forced to live in his office on a repetitive diet of noodle soup.

A few months after Lula’s death is ruled a suicide, her brother approaches Strike and employs him to prove that Lula did not commit suicide, but was murdered. As Strike pieces together the last few days of Lula’s life, he is drawn into a dangerous and secretive world he is unfamiliar with, of rappers, rock-stars and high powered lawyers, as he tries to unravel the mystery of The Cuckoo’s Calling.

Writing Style

JK Rowling’s incredible talent for building vivid images in the reader’s mind is evident from the very start of the book:

“The buzz in the street was like the humming of flies. Photographers stood massed behind barriers patrolled by police, their long snouted cameras poised, their breath rising like steam. Snow fell steadily on to hats and shoulders; gloved fingers wiped lenses clear. From time to time there came outbreaks of desultory clicking, as the watchers filled the waiting time by snapping the white canvas tent in the middle of the road, the entrance to the tall red-bricked apartment block behind it, and the balcony on the top floor from which the body had fallen.”

All of JK Rowling’s trademarks are on display here. From well-crafted characters, to a devious roving plot, to an elaborate and clever finale.

The reviews have been overwhelmingly positive; with many critics praising it’s blistering pace, and detailed insight into the glitterati world of fame and fortune.

The New York Times described it as “a highly entertaining book” saying that “its narrative moves forward with propulsive suspense.”

USA Today said it was “One of the books of the year.”

The Guardian newspaper said it was “an enjoyable, highly professional crime novel.”
